Am I an Attention Whore ?

I asked myself that question "Am I an attention whore ?" yesterday.  

The reason I had to ask that was, I was little conflicted. I knew about Movember for few years now and I thought I would participate in it this year. 

But for some reason I kept getting lot of rules. Lot of people keep telling me the rules about #Movember 

1. You should start clean shaved 

2. You can't have a beard

3. You should start on Nov 1 blah blah 

It was conflicting to me because I was asking myself, shouldn't the focus be on the "intent" behind the Movember movement to bring awareness to Men's health and promote healthy living among men.

The Movember cause is trying to bring awareness and address some issues like 

• Men die 6 years earlier than women
• 75 % of the suicides are by men. That's 1 men dying of suicide every minute 
• Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide.
• Prostate and testicular cancer are on the rise and the people suffering from it are expected to double by 2030. 

If it wasn't for Movember Foundation I wouldn't have known or paid attention to these astonishing facts and the impact they are having on the men.

Anyways I  like the ice bucket challenge and the Movember foundation causes. I am excited they are taking the entrepreneurial, creative and innovative path to bring awareness to these causes. They are making these fun to talk about instead of all depressing and a taboo.

Yes I am all up for it. But in this ever growing ADD world of social media and noise I sometimes feel the focus tends be only on the ice buckets - youtubing/vining the videos and porn stache moustaches/instagramming it ;) and not the intent behind them.

Some of the reasons I say that is lot of people keep talking about the rules to participate in Movember, posting selfies of it and when asked about "Why Movember or what it is ?" many don't have a clue.

Hope we don't forget the roots and do pay attention to "Why" we are doing what we are doing and be the attention whores we like to be ;) but with a purpose and meaning of "Why".
